The Ethos of the Charity
The Charity has existed for so long in Christchurch it is laced into the fabric of the town itself. It’s only aim is to support those who call Christchurch home and who are in severe need. This may be financial or may be particular hardship suffered by those who are ill or infirm and this can include issues arising from isolation, communication, and mobility. Clearly, the Charity cannot help everyone but the trustees believe that help should be given where it will achieve a continuing change for the better in the lives of those who do receive help or will relieve an immediate crisis where no other help is available.
What the Charity Does
The Charity provides cash grants to help people living in Christchurch, Dorset, or, in some cases, immediately outside it, if (a) they are in severe financial distress or (b) suffering hardship as a result of infirmity or illness. A grant can be given either to:
A Family; or
An Individual; or
An Organisation, which can be based anywhere, provided the grant facilitates help for Christchurch residents.
Further information is given on the Apply page.
Who Runs the Charity
It is run by volunteer trustees all of whom have a strong connection with Christchurch. The trustees employ a clerk who runs the charity on a day to day basis.
The Charity is registered with the Charity Commission and information about the Charity can be obtained from the Charity Commission. In particular you can download copies of its accounts for the last 5 years. These include a report by the trustees on the work done by the Charity each year. Please take a look since the reports contain a wealth of information about how the Charity is managed and the help it has given each year.
